Empowering People,
Regenerating the Planet

Through community partnerships in Ecuador, Building Carbon scales up regenerative agroforestry through farmer training and advances the state of the art of bamboo building technology through R&D.

Our Mission & Vision

We harness the power of bamboo construction and regenerative agroforestry to restore ecosystems, strengthen communities, and lead the transition to a climate-resilient world.

Founded in Partnership

Building Carbon was founded to advance the work and research of our partner organization, the Regeneration Field Institute (RFI). In response to the 2016 earthquake in coastal Ecuador, RFI has led education programs, social projects and research in bamboo construction and regenerative agroforestry.

Building Carbon scales impact of regenerative solutions with local communities at the lead.

Our Work

  • Strengthening the Bamboo Value Chain

We focus on Guadua angustifolia Kunth, a native Ecuadorian bamboo prized for its strength, fast growth, and ecological benefits.

We collaborate with researchers, designers, and bamboo enterprises to scale bamboo-based construction in Ecuador and beyond — from regenerative cultivation to the development of prefabricated structural panels.

  • Agroforestry, Restoring Land and Livelihoods

We believe the best way to restore degraded land is by empowering farmers as the drivers of regeneration — offering proven methods, tools, and training to support both ecosystem health and sustainable livelihoods.

Through our own demonstration on our 70 acre farm campus and farmer training programs, Building Carbon inspires and equips farmers to scale regenerative practices that build resilience and reduce vulnerability to increasingly volatile climates and agricultural markets.
